Prepare Your Body for the FLU Season
Foods that boost the Immune System:
- All fruits and vegetables, especially dark green leafy vega tables (fresh/frozen) eat 4-5 varieties a day.
- Whole grains and fiber (whole wheat, whole grain rice, whole grain pasta, raw nuts/seeds-flaxseeds, beans and barley).
- More white meat and less red meat (chicken, fish-farm raised and chunk light tuna, turkey, and little lean read meat without hormones).
- If dairy, use only organic varieties that are pasteurized.
- Green and/or white tea and distilled water.
- Olive oil and flax seed oil for cooking and salads.
- Whipped butter to replace margarine.
- Use fresh garlic in cooking and raw in salads, etc.
- Incorporate more organic foods in your grocery shopping.
Foods that Deplete the Immune System:
Read all food ingredient labels carefully!
- All prepared or processed foods and junk food (too much FAT, sodium, MSG and other chemical flavor enhancers with preservatives).
- All corn syrups.
- Enriched white flour.
- Hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils.
- Soda and (juices that have corn syrup or sugar added).
- Fried foods.
- Lunch meats (meats home cooked are fine).
- For all caffeine and alcohol products use in moderation.
- White potatoes (too starchy).
