NOMENCLATURE OF HYPNOSIS
By Christina Davis, NP – M.Ed.CHT

The law of attraction was first officially coined by the philosopher around the turn of the twentieth century, Dr. William James. He stated: “whatever you hold in your mind your body moves toward”,. Almost everyone who has accomplished anything knows that being fanatical about achieving your goal will generally lead you in that direction.

Thoughts are energy. The more you are thinking about something, the more energy you are sending out in the universe to get the object or condition. When you think of the ancient ruins in caves located around the world you usually see paintings on the cave walls of animals. Are the people who live in caves painting the animals to pass the time, to hold in reverence as a religious object, or are they painting the animal because they are hungry and know the animal will fill their appetites?

According to World Shamanism, when the individual is hungry he focuses on the animal, prays, meditates, asks for guidance and after a while maybe before the painting is finished a deer or other creature arrives by the cave and all are soon eating the food they have visualized on the cave walls. Mission accomplished as a result of visualization. This is an example of a positive suggestion or idea that manifests the object of admiration and concentration.

Do negative suggestions work the same way as positive suggestions? Yes they do. The law of attraction states that whatever we hold in our minds our body moves in that direction.

In all my classes my students hear these words, “what you visualize you actualize”. If a nutritionist or doctor tells you to stop eating greasy hamburgers or they will kill you, chances are you will be back to the greasy hamburgers in a day or two because you focus on the hamburger so much you will not eliminate it from your diet. Why? Because you keep thinking about it more than ever before, and sooner or later your body moves like a robot in search of the next greasy hamburger.

People who are addicted to smoking, gambling, etc., find themselves in the same condition. The harder they try to quit, the harder it becomes. The reason why is they are always thinking of what they are giving up rather than what they are receiving.

In hypnosis you will find that the first thing you have to conquer is what is on your mind. You have to rewire your thinking away from what you don’t want to obtain what you do want. Think of what you want out of life and hold the thoughts, focus on them daily while developing the attitude of gratitude for what you do have by giving thanks to the Creator of all life. This will steer you toward an abundant life rather than one that is depleted due to your negative focus.
